Manuel Rodríguez Valenzuela (1980, Valencia, Spain) feels comfortable in the diversity, alternating between sometimes extremely different compositional techniques, instrumental resources, objects and different medias. He also enjoys organizing chaos into unexpected combinations. Lately he focuses on intertextuality, reinterpreting pieces from the past, and also on a personal idea of honesty in the process of composing. Studied composition in ESMUC (Barcelona), Sibelius Academy (Helsinki) and in Aarhus (Denmark) and attended several seminars and master classes in different countries around the world. He lives in Potsdam (Germany). He’s been granted to reside at the “Künstlerhaus-Schloss Wiepersdorf”, “Schloß Hundisburg”, “Kunstlerhaus Schreyahn” (Germany), Casa Baldi (Italy) and at the Visby Center for Composers (Sweden). In 2011 he was awarded the Tremplin Prize given by the Ensemble Intercontemporain. In 2014 he won the Prize of the National Institute for Performing Arts and Music of Spain. In 2018 was awarded the Positano Project Prize given by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. In 2019 was awarded the BBVA Leonardo Grant. He’s been composer-in-residence at the Sampler Series Festival (Barcelona). His music was performed by musicians as the Ensemble Mosaik, Ascolta Ensemble, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Klangforum Wien members, Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lorraine, Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Vertixe Sonora Ensemble, Ensemble BCN 216, CrossingLines Ensemble, etc.
