Joan Magrané (Reus, 1988) received his first composition lessons from Ramon Humet. He subsequently studied at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (Barcelona) with Agustín Charles, at the Kunst Universität (Graz) with Beat Furrer and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse (Paris) with Stefano Gervasoni. His works have been performed by Ensemble Intercontemporain (Pintscher, Mantovani), Quatuor Diotima, Graindelavoix (Schmelzer), London Sinfonietta (Colomer), Quartet Gerhard, Cosmos Quartet, Les éléments, Les inAttendus, Orquesta Nacional de España (Afkham), BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (Pintscher), Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya (Matheuz, Ono, Volkov), Orquesta de la RTVE (Kalmar), Kebyart Ensemble, Azahar Ensemble, Sigma Project, Gérard Caussé, Carlos Mena, Iñaki Alberdi, Tanguy de Williencourt, Joel Bardolet, Pau Codina and many others in venues/festivals such as the Philharmonie de Paris, Lucerne Festival, BOZAR de Bruxelles, Théâtre du Châtelet, Heidelberger Frühling, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Festival de Peralada, L’Auditori de Barcelona, Palau de la Música Catalana, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Festival de Torroella, Grand Théâtre de Provence, Fondation Royaumont, Musée d’Orsay and many others. He has received several international awards, including the XXXI Queen Sofía Composition Prize (2014).
