Bryn Harrison is a composer and Professor of Composition at the University of Huddersfield, England. His pieces have been performed by many established ensembles including Plus Minus, Elision, Apartment House, Bozzini String Quartet, Wet Ink, Ensemble Recherche, Klangforum Wien, Exaudi, asamisimasa, tre voci, Southbank Gamelan Players, London Sinfonietta, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. London Symphony Orchestra and Ensemble Contrechamps as well as by soloists such as Kit Downes, Philip Thomas, Mark Knoop, Aisha Orazbayeva, Anton Lukoszevieze and Sarah Saviet. He has received notable performances and radio broadcasts from international festivals across the world. In particular, he has maintained a close relationship with the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, receiving prizes there in 1993 and 1995, commissions from the festival in 1999, 2002, 2008 and 2009, and additional performances in 2015, 2017 and 2019. His music is featured on two solo discs on the Another Timbre label as well as several tracks on the HCR label. Following the release of Receiving the Approaching Memory, Kate Molleson gave the disc a four-star rating in the Guardian, stating that: “There is, though, something especially economical and fantastical about Harrison’s sound; something in the way he repeats and interlocks fine-grained, shimmering material and keeps us spinning in a magical place between stasis, flux and momentum.” (The Guardian, 14/07/16). Bryn Harrison has co-authored two books: with Richard Glover Overcoming Form: Reflections on Immersive Listening, University of Huddersfield Press, 2013 and, with Glover and Gottschalk, Being Time: Case Studies in Musical Temporality, Bloomsbury 2018. He is a recipient of the prestigious Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Composers.
